Lauren Dane.

nutritionist. Exercise specialist. mum.

I specialise in supporting women, primarily. As a mother of two small children with very different birth experiences, I have seen (and felt!) first-hand the many changes and demands that women experience during pregnancy and childbirth. I provide safe, evidence-based, judgement-free guidance for each of the women I am privileged enough to support during their pregnancy journey.

I believe that humans were designed to move, and that everyone can find a form of movement that works for them. As far as nutrition goes, my view is that the body evolved in partnership with its environment to be optimally adapted to the products of nature. In short, the less processed your food is, the better.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey, a Masters Degree in Sport and Health Science from Exeter University and in Psychology from the University of St Andrews. I am trained as a Functional Movement Specialist and have further training with the British Association of Dietetics in Paediatric Dietetics. I also have specialist training with the BDA in Pregnancy Nutrition.

nutrition.

Do you wonder what you should be eating at each stage of your pregnancy? Did you know that your nutritional needs change throughout your pregnancy, as baby starts to rely on you for different nutrients during each of the three trimesters? Caring for your body during pregnancy is a crucial aspect of optimal foetal development, with numerous birth outcomes and neurological markers demonstrating a clear link between good nutrition and baby's health. The reality for many of us, however, is a lot to get done each day and limited time in which to do it, even before pregnancy-specific nutrition is added to the mix. Preparing and sustaining new life puts enormous demands on the female body, and we can support those demands by providing it with the best possible nourishment.

Exercise.

Movement during pregnancy is so important, and yet many of us feel anxious about the risks it might pose to our little one. However, the truth is that increasingly evidence demonstrates positive markers associated with ante-natal exercise and experience shows us that strength and fitness is hugely beneficial during labour and the early months postpartum. I specialise in providing intelligent, evidence based guidance in a format that is realistic and easy to follow.

Mind.

Babies and pregnancy bring pure joy. They also bring sleep-deprivation, anxiety, morning sickness, swollen ankles, loneliness, intrusive thoughts, a new, unrecognisable body and hormone fluctuations, amongst other things.

I'm here for that. Sometimes, the challenges my clients face go beyond my remit. Often, they don't, for the simple reason that being cared for by someone in whose hands you can trust that you're safe and respected will totally transform your experience of this whole journey.

I offer comprehensive, tailored support on a one-to-one basis. Importantly, I deliver this information in an accessible, clear format, with specific, practical steps for you to take each week.

More about these services.

I have spent years studying at university alongside my private practice to learn as much as possible about how I can support women to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. Each element that I have studied plays its own unique and essential role.

FAQs

How can you help me?

In essence, my job is to empower you with evidence-based strategies for optimal nutrition and strength throughout pregnancy to give your baby the best start possible, whilst working alongside you to maintain a calm, confident and balanced perspective throughout. This process involves trust and my ability to effectively assess your needs and offer realistic solutions which fit within your values, routines and lifestyle.

How does it work?

Every pregnancy journey is different, so the support you will need is likely to be unique to you. I offer 1-2-1 consultations, 3-month packages and group sessions - the best way to work out what works best for you is for us to have a chat. I offer free and confidential ‘welcome calls’ to help us establish whether we might work well together. These are entirely free from obligation and are a safe space to discuss any questions you might have.

What sort of costs are involved?

I run three-month packages which are payable monthly and prices depend on the amount of support you'd like from me. For monthly consultations with guidance tailored to your stage of pregnancy, you can expect to spend £140.00 per month. If you'd like more help, such as additional regular check-ins and consultations or pregnancy-specific training sessions here at my studio, we can discuss your needs during our initial chat.

I'm not pregnant yet, but I'd like to know more. Can you help me?

Absolutely! Firstly, it's never too early to know how to eat and exercise well. Many of the things which contribute to a healthy pregnancy are based on habits which apply to everyone, at all stages of life. Secondly, the three-month window leading up to pregnancy is an especially important time because it's an opportunity to make sure your body has enough stores of key nutrients, like folate, iodine, and omega-3 fatty acids, as you embark on the process of growing a healthy baby.

Do you offer guidance for good nutrition during breastfeeding?

A thousand times yes! Breastfeeding yields huge nutrient drawdown from mum - not to mention the psychological, physical and time demands involved. Optimal nutrition at this point is so, so important, as well as making sure we care for your psychological wellbeing. Having breastfed both of my children, I am familiar with the ups and the downs of this process and it is a journey on which I am passionate and privileged to accompany new mamas.
