Lauren Dane.

nutritionist. mediocre TRIATHLETE. Exercise specialist.

I specialise in supporting women, primarily. As a mother of two small children with very different birth experiences, I have seen (and felt!) first-hand the many changes and demands that women experience during pregnancy and childbirth. I provide safe, evidence-based, judgement-free guidance for each of the women I am privileged enough to support during their pregnancy journey.

I believe that humans were designed to move, and that everyone can find a form of movement that works for them. As far as nutrition goes, my view is that the body evolved in partnership with its environment to be optimally adapted to the products of nature. In short, the less processed your food is, the better.

I have a Postgraduate Diploma in Nutritional Medicine from the University of Surrey, a Masters Degree in Sport and Health Science from Exeter University and in Psychology from the University of St Andrews. I am trained as a Functional Movement Specialist and recently completed further training in Paediatric Dietetics with the British Association of Dietetics.

NOURIshing mum-to-be: Preconception support

There is a lot of information in circulation nowadays. My role is to provide you with clear, evidence-based guidance on essential nutrients for a healthy pregnancy, as well as timing and dietary sources. I will work with you to build a food plan which is achievable and appealing, and teach you how to make good choices on your own.

Nourishing mum and baby: pregnancy support

As above, my role in supporting you throughout your pregnancy is to give you accurate information and then work alongside you to bring this into your routine without creating unnecessary stress. Each pregnancy is unique, so the support I offer is bespoke to each individual. We might be navigating time pressures, fatigue, nausea, care for other children, or any number of other things, and it’s my job to help you have the calmest, healthiest and most positive pregnancy I possibly can.

Nourishing mum and baby: Post-partum support

This is often the point at which mum’s needs take a back seat. Caring for a newborn is an intense process but it can also be a space where good habits are set in place and small moments of self-care make a crucial difference to both your mental and physical health. I am absolutely passionate about supporting women during this stage, since it is filled with some of the biggest challenges of motherhood. It is also the point at which sleep deprivation and the efforts of labour may take their toll, so providing care and support at this time can make a big, positive difference on so many levels.

How does it work?

For each of these services, I provide the following:

Initial assessment on Teams. This takes around 45 minutes, and gives me the opportunity to ask questions, share forms and generally have a chat.

This is followed by a week in which you complete a food diary, any forms I’ve sent over, and add any further notes that we might not have covered during our initial assessment.

Based on this information, I will then compile a handbook which is specifically tailored to you and your pregnancy. This will comprise a range of tools for you to use, including (but not limited to) information on timing and quantities of essential nutrients, any gaps in your nutrition profile, and suggestions for managing particular issues you might be dealing with.

Over each of the next four weeks, I will check in with you with a fifteen minute call. This will be at the same time each week and ideally would be on Teams so we can see each other, although we can speak on the phone on occasions where Teams is difficult.

At the end of this, if you’re not ready to continue on your own, you can decide how you’d like to proceed. You can repeat the process in its entirety, you can book in for a one-off consultation or you can move onto ongoing support. Ongoing support keeps our weekly check-ins in place so you can continue to ask any questions or share any concerns. Ultimately our goal should be to equip you with the skills you need to be able to make optimal decisions on your own, but I will always be here to provide support for as long as you’d like it.

More about Nourikò

I have spent years studying at university alongside my private practice to learn as much as possible about how I can support women to have the healthiest pregnancy possible. Each element that I have studied plays its own unique and essential role.

nutrition.

During pre-conception, pregnancy and the post-partum period, our nutrient requirements change. Preparing and sustaining new life puts enormous demands on the female body, and we can support those demands by providing it with the best possible nourishment.

Exercise.

Movement during pregnancy is so important, and yet many of us feel anxious about the risks it might pose to our little one. I specialise in providing intelligent, evidence-based guidance in a format that is easy and straightforward to follow.

Mind.

Babies and pregnancy bring pure joy. They also bring sleep-deprivation, anxiety, morning sickness, swollen ankles, loneliness, intrusive thoughts, a new, unrecognisable body and hormone fluctuations. Amongst other things.

I'm here for that. Sometimes, the challenges my clients face go beyond my remit. Often, they don't, for the simple reason that being cared for by someone in whose hands you can trust that you're safe and respected will totally transform your experience of this whole journey.
